Today, we’re talking with Paul Gunter and Andrew Shorten of Greater Minds. They’ve been using Summit Evergreen for about seven months, and they’re pumped to share their story with the world:
This is one of the only SaaS products I would recommend to people. I want to tell everyone about it!
Greater Minds is a personal growth publisher that “aims to create communities and knowledge products that spread enlightened ideas and empowered thinking.” One of Paul and Andrew’s most popular communities is The Law of Attraction, with a highly engaged Facebook page of nearly 2 million group members from 100 countries.
When they first set out to create products for this community, it was a bit of a nightmare:
We started with a mashed together version of WordPress and Wishlist Member. It didn’t work! Wishlist Member would break whenever there were updates to WordPress. It also slowed down our blog site, because we were using 30+ different WordPress plugins on the same server as our blog.
At the same time, we were working with a developer who was in and out. We were battling to get the course completed.
We asked someone “Do you know anyone who can help us out?” And they said to speak to Rachel Kersten. So we spoke to Rachel, and she pointed us to Keith, and he pointed us to Summit Evergreen.
After a Skype demo, it was quite clear it could do what we needed it to do, and it was very affordable. Keith saved the day. We jumped on the platform and it took only a couple of months from signup to launching our course.
Paul and Andrew went from a broken system on WordPress to a fully functioning platform that works every time. Total upgrade!
Now, they can nurture their opt-ins into paying students, leading them through a seamless customer funnel. With over 16,000 opt-ins to date, Law of Attraction is turning more leads into paid customers than ever before.
Paul and Andrew explain their strategy:
Usually, a free product is sent to your email inbox when you first opt in. It’s available straightaway for a download. But we do it differently.
When users opt in, we don’t deliver our free product as an email download. Instead, they get redirected to a free membership signup page, where all they have to do is choose a password to access their downloads. It was important for us to get our opt-ins into the membership area so that they feel comfortable with it when they’re ready to purchase something more.
Once they’re inside the portal, we created an extra tab that says “What’s Next?” and this showed the VSL for our paid product, “Living With The Law Of Attraction.” If they don’t buy it from the first email we sent, they will see it again whenever they log in to access their free toolkit. Then they can click on the “buy” button, go to a shopping cart and pay for the program right there.
When they get a “thanks for your payment” message, we include an upsell asking if they’d like a special price on our second paid course, “The Law Of Attraction Manifestation Mastery Portal.” That leads to an email funnel that introduces them to the course over two weeks and, if they haven’t purchased, gives them another opportunity to buy.
We’ve definitely made sales from that. We don’t have anything to compare it to because we’ve never had anything like this before.
Once users dive into the Law of Attraction courses, their premium experience continues. Two of the most important product features that Paul and Andrew use are the content drip and quizzes. With the content drip, material is portioned out so users can focus on one lesson at a time. With quizzes, they have to read and understand the material before progressing to the next lesson. These tools give students more bang for their buck (and decrease their chances of refunding).
Drip is definitely important, because we don’t want people just buying and refunding. We’ve seen that before, when you give them everything at once. Our free toolkit has 90 days of material, just a little bit every day, which is the best way to learn. We get really good feedback from people learning with this method.
We also use quizzes, so that you can’t get to the next day of content until you complete a quiz. It asks you multiple choice questions, and you’re going to need to read the content to know the answers. Let’s say there are four questions, and you need at least 75% correct before we’ll let you unlock the following day’s content. It’s a good way to get users to engage and make sure they’re reading.
Paul and Andrew are thrilled with the results, and they’ve become passionate evangelists for the platform:
Using WordPress with a membership system is fine. But if you don’t have your own tech team or web designer, and you don’t want the hassle of figuring all that out, you need a solutions provider like Summit Evergreen. You don’t have to worry about WordPress updates breaking it. It’s scalable. You can handle a load of traffic. If something goes wrong, there’s someone to help fix it straightaway.
You’re outsourcing it to the experts.
One of the other things that sticks in my mind: It’s so good that Internet Marketing experts are in charge of this platform. We’re all on the same page, and we know how important certain things are. If you’ve got someone building a course platform just to make money, but they don’t understand the ins and outs and whys, you’re not going to get the greatest result. But Keith and Rachel get it, and it’s great.
