amykaufmanMeet wonder woman Amy Kauffman: organization expert, business coach, startup founder, event coordinator, project manager, and even published author. In her role as CEO of Givily, a philanthropic startup, she connects large food and beverage companies — think Honestea, Clif Bar, and Cabot Cheese — with charitable opportunities. Amy’s seen it all and done it all, a true business and organizational powerhouse.

One of Amy’s business coaching clients is The Foundation, the renowned online mentoring program for entrepreneurs. They were so impressed with her coaching abilities, they asked her to overhaul their six-figure “coach the coach” program, creating a brand new online course with which to train their in-house coaches who work with emerging entrepreneurs.

It was a huge opportunity, but there was one problem. Amy didn’t know how to distribute her online course.

We asked Amy to tell us about her experience:

Terrified. That’s how I felt after landing one of the biggest projects of my career.

I had the expertise and experience to take on a project of this caliber. I had 20 coaching videos already created and ready to go. What I didn’t have was a way to build a course all by myself.

I was frozen with fear. How on earth could I pull this off? Didn’t I need to know about web design and coding to deliver a professional program like this? Would I be able to fulfill my consulting contract with The Foundation, or had I bit off way more than I could chew?

Panicked, I considered a few different ways to move forward.

I considered creating a WordPress membership site, but it was too confusing to set up, and I didn’t know enough about coding to feel confident doing it.

I thought about using Google Docs, but it wasn’t professional enough for a course of this level, and it didn’t have many of the features I needed.

For an entire week I was full of self-doubt, and I didn’t do anything at all.

Does it seem a little over the top to be frozen for an entire week? Not at all! Let’s face it: this is exactly what many of us experience when faced with a seemingly insurmountable challenge. Especially when you’re extremely smart, passionate, and capable — maybe even a perfectionist — it’s easy to become immobilized at the thought of failure.

When you really care, you don’t want to let people down.

We’re not impressed with programs or coaches who tell you that this kind of thing is easy. It’s not. There’s a lot of self-doubt and fear that you have to experience before you can head in the right direction. Even a strong, successful person like Amy feels these emotions. It’s perfectly normal, and we see this in our clients all the time. If you’ve ever felt this way, welcome to the club!

Part of the reason for this series is to dispel the myth of overnight success and show what it really takes to get things done. Creating an online course or information product isn’t about snapping your fingers and making it perfect right off the bat. It takes work, time, and the ability to overcome your personal challenges.

Back to Amy.

Amy realized that it was crazy to try to learn how to code in order to create the coaching course for The Foundation. She needed a “tech-free” solution. She needed something professionally designed, with the ability to handle lots of content gracefully. She needed something she could set up herself without any technological know-how.

When she found Summit Evergreen, she got on the phone with our concierge and started building her course right away.

Amy says:

When I found Summit Evergreen, it was like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.

Here was a course delivery system that didn’t require any coding knowledge. I could easily plug in my content and let the platform take care of the technical stuff. With Summit Evergreen’s platform, the entire student experience was sophisticated and streamlined right out of the box, with minimal effort on my part.

I especially loved how easy it was to add video to my course. All I had to do was drop in a YouTube link, and there it was. And the course editor dashboard is so intuitive to use.

I’ve never felt more relieved. And I never knew creating a course could be this easy…and fast.

Just to give you an idea of how fast: I first logged in to Summit Evergreen on August 5th, and by August 11th (six days later), I had a finished course.

Getting rid of your tech headaches has always been one of our driving passions. We understand the pain of creating an online membership site, the way you tense up at the thought of creating a WordPress install. It’s intimidating! We want to eliminate that feeling. It’s just one of the reasons people like Amy find our platform right for them.

When we first started Summit Evergreen, we thought: “Why should you have to be a tech expert to share your expertise?”

It seemed unfair that experts of all kinds were being forced to learn coding and web design to make their online courses a reality. With our platform, you don’t have to be an expert at everything. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist AND a brain surgeon. You just have to be you. We take care of the rest.

Take a look at what Amy delivered to her clients:

We asked Amy to tell us how The Foundation reacted to their new online course:

When I delivered the course to The Foundation, they were beyond thrilled with the results. They loved the content, they loved the design, they loved how easy it was to use.

Considering how nervous I was at the beginning of the project, I was shocked when they suggested the possibility of creating more courses in the future.

Summit Evergreen changed my entire outlook on online courses…and the possibilities of what I can accomplish…and the future of my entire business. I’ll never let my lack of technical knowledge get in the way of my success again. And I’d never create an online course with anything other than Summit Evergreen.

Before we go, we want to thank Amy for sharing her experience with us. It isn’t easy to admit to feeling scared or intimidated, especially in such a public forum. But the more we talk about it, the less alone other people will feel. It’s okay to be overwhelmed. It’s normal. We all go through it — and we’re here to help you.

If you’ve ever found yourself in Amy’s shoes, intimidated by technology and confused about what to do, don’t worry. With Summit Evergreen, you can be the expert on your thing (whatever that may be), and we’ll be the expert on our thing (delivering great courses).

We firmly believe that you shouldn’t have to become a super geek to create a membership site of your own. We’re committed to helping you create an amazing customer experience for your students, with as little effort as possible from you.

Thanks again to Amy Kauffman for being our very first Success Story. Don’t miss the next installment — join our email list and you’ll be the first to know when we speak with other Summit Evergreen users.
