Welcome to The Feature Feature! This recurring series shows you the newest features that have just been added to Summit Evergreen, along with tips and tricks to get the most out of the platform. We’re always optimizing to make your life easier, your courses better, and your results stronger.

Today, we’re going to talk about one of our all-time favorite Summit Evergreen features: Quizzes!

Why are quizzes so important?

Learning is a two-way street. It’s a give and take between instructor and student.

Unfortunately, some course delivery platforms treat learning like a one-way street. They’re built to push out content to passive students, without any communication heading back in your direction.

This hurts both parties involved. Your students don’t have an opportunity to express themselves or show what they’ve learned. And you don’t fully understand what’s happening with your students — how they’re progressing, what they need help with, how they feel about your course.

Summit Evergreen’s built-in quiz functionality solves that problem.

At the end of every lesson, you can add quiz questions for your students to answer.

Utilize this feature in a few different ways for different results:

Traditional Quiz
Challenge your students to show what they’ve learned, like a test you would take in school. This reinforces the material and increases your students’ retention. Set up a quiz in minutes with our easy interface, which lets you choose from question types including multiple choice, yes/no, and short answer.

Journaling
Ask your students more personal, essay-style questions. For example, you might ask them to reflect on what they’ve just learned, or how it applies to their own lives. By drawing a personal connection, they’ll be more engaged and feel more connected to you and your course.

Feedback
Request feedback along the way. This is an incredibly valuable opportunity for you to learn what your students really think about your course. Are they finding it helpful? Confusing? Motivating? Every business needs feedback from its customers, and this is the perfect tool to get that important information. Your students are your #1 resource for telling you what you’re doing well — and what you need to change. Data is power.

Here’s a bonus feature-within-the-feature that we call “Locked Progression.”

If you choose, you can make it mandatory for your students to pass a quiz in order to advance to the next lesson. If you’re worried they’ll breeze past your questions in a hurry to move forward, this feature is for you. Make any quiz a locked progression with just one click.

Don’t worry, you won’t be hand-grading lots of quizzes with this feature. Locked progressions are fully automated and super flexible.

  • Set the correct answers for multiple choice questions.
  • Plug in required keywords for short answer questions.
  • Set the passing score your students need to hit to move forward. 100% correct? 70% correct? However you want to grade your students, it’s easy to set up.

Quizzes and locked progressions turn one direction learning into two direction learning. Your students will learn more, and you’ll learn more about your students. It’s a sophisticated feature that’s easy to set up…and gives you valuable results you can’t get anywhere else.
